US Forest Service Historical Gallery

forest scene

Images from 35 mm and digital camera monitoring sites with over five (5) years of data have been selected to capture a range or "spectrum" of historical visibility, seasonal conditions, and other significant events. Over seventy (70) US Forest Service photographic monitoring sites are represented in this Historical Gallery. All posted materials and images have also been archived on site-specific CD-ROMs, available from the FS Air Program.

Features for each historical gallery include:

•  A written site history and graphic representation of the monitoring site and operational period.
•  Image spectrums consisting of a series of good to poor regional haze visibility conditions.
•  Images of pristine, scenic, or meteorological interest.
•  Selected representations of layered haze, regional haze, or pollution episodes of significant importance.

A complete summary of the historical archive project and the image selection process is provided under the drop-down Historical Archive Project Overview menu.
